Coeur d'Alene--The 52nd North Idaho Sports Banquet took place at the Coeur d'Alene Inn on Saturday night. The University of Idaho walked away with three of the night's honors, including Coach of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year and Team of the Year.

Wayne Phipps, Director of Track & Field, was awarded Coach of the Year. Phipps directed the women's cross country team to its fourth straight Western Athletic Conference championship in November, earning WAC Women's Coach of the Year. At the WAC championship the Vandal men finished 1-2-3 individually and second overall as a team.

The University of Idaho men’s track and field team claimed the 2014 Indoor WAC Track and Field championship back in February. The final standings came down to just a single point as Idaho edged Grand Canyon. Phipps was awarded his second Coach of Year honor of the year, being voted Coach of the Year on the men's side. The women placed third in the meet.

Stacey Barr, the WAC Player of the Year, was honored as the North Idaho Hall of Fame's Female Athlete of the Year. Barr led the Vandals in scoring (18.2 ppg) and rebounding (7.7 rpg) in 2013-14. The junior from Melbourne, Australia, was named the WAC Tournament MVP for the second consecutive season. Barr scored 78 points in the tournament, helping Idaho to its second tournament title in as many seasons. She finished the season as the 53rd leading scorer in the NCAA with 620 points, ranking fourth most in program history.

The Team of the Year was presented to the 2013-14 Idaho Women's Basketball team. The Vandals finsihed 25-9 this season, resulting in the program's third trip to the NCAA Tournament. Idaho entered the conference season with a 7-7 record before rattling off 10 consecutive victories. The Silver and Gold closed out the season as the best women’s basketball team the program has seen since the mid-1980s. The team finished ninth in the nation in turnovers per game (12.2) and personal fouls per game (14.7). Idaho averaged 8.5 three-pointers per game, ranking 16th in the NCAA. Defensively, Idaho finished the season 15th in the country with a holding opponents to a 35.8 field goal percentage.
