Mary Martin (Raese) was one of the key members of the two best women’s basketball teams in Vandal history. A three-time Mountain West Athletic All-Conference honoree, Martin led the Vandal women to the 1984-85 MWAC title, as well as the team’s first and only appearance at the NCAA tournament. In 1985-86, Martin led the team to the Women’s NIT title. That season, Martin earned District VII All-America honors. Martin’s 639 points scored in 1985-86 was a school record that lasted nearly 20 years. Martin is one of the best shooters ever at Idaho, with a career .612 field goal average and the top two single season shooting percentages in Vandal history. While her offense was great, her defense may have been greater. Her career total of 306 blocked shots is 116 more than the second-best total. Her 97 blocks in 1984-85 is a single-season school record, and her 86 in 1983-84 is the second best total. Raese finished her four-year career with top-five marks in 17 statistical categories and five school records.
