|Boyden honored by WAC|
DENVER - University of Idaho junior goalkeeper Liz Boyden was honored Monday as the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 30 - Sep. 5.
Boyden, a junior from Spokane, Wash. (Ferris HS), had an impressive weekend in goal as she helped lead the Vandals to a 2-0 record at the Governor's Cup tournament for the second year in a row.
She made eight saves in two games and allowed just one score in 180 minutes. Her shutout against Utah Valley was the first of the season and the sixth of her career and puts her in a tie with Anna Sandman for third all-time at Idaho.
Boyden made four saves in the 2-1 win over Idaho State on Friday. She finished the weekend by holding Idaho's opponents without a score for 165 consecutive minutes. The honor is the second of her career.
The Vandals will be back in action looking to extend their scoreless minutes streak against South Dakota on Saturday, then again at Weber State next Tuesday, September 14.
