|Two Vandals earn all-WAC honors|
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Two Idaho volleyball players were honored Sunday night at the annual Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament banquet, as the WAC postseason awards were given out. Freshman outside hitter Allison Walker was a first-team all-WAC selection, and was selected to the WAC all-freshman team, while senior middle blocker Kelsey Taylor was a second-team all-WAC selection.
Walker led the Vandals and ranked fourth in the WAC with 3.95 kills per game, totaling 387 on the season. She hit 224 for the year and added 133 digs (1.36 per game). Walker had six double-doubles on the season, including four straight from Nov. 6-15. She earned WAC Player of the Week honors once during the season, and was the only freshman to earn a first-team all-WAC spot. Walker was named to the all-tournament team at the Nike Cougar Classic and the Community Bankers Classic earlier in the season.
Taylor led Idaho with 133 total blocks on the season and a .265 hitting percentage. She averaged 1.32 blocks per game, which ranks in the top-25 nationally, and finished the regular season with 194 kills. Taylor was a preseason all-WAC selection heading into 2010, and was WAC player of the week one time during the season. Taylor earned all-tournament team honors at the Gonzaga Volleyball Tournament.
Hawai'i junior outside hitter Kanani Danielson earned her second-straight WAC Player of the Year honor, and was selected to the first-team all-WAC for the third straight year. UH freshman Emily Hartong was a second-team all-WAC selection and earned the WAC Freshman of the Year award. Hawai'i coach Dave Shoji earned his eighth career WAC Coach of the Year honor. 2010 marked the 15th consecutive year that the WAC Player of the Year came from the University of Hawai'i.
The 2010 WAC volleyball tournament gets underway on Monday, with No. 3 Utah State taking on No. 6 Nevada, and No. 5 Idaho facing No. 4 Boise State.
