University of Idaho junior Kayla Mortellaro has been chosen the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week for February 7-13.
Mortellaro, from Phoenix, Ariz. (Mesa Distance Learning), tied for second place at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational last week. She shot a 2-under par 214 for the three rounds (70-69-75) to finish two strokes behind the winner. Mortellaro finished six strokes ahead of the nearest WAC participant as a total of 20 players from WAC schools were competing in the 16-team tournament. It is the eighth time in her career that Mortellaro has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.
Mortellaro is ranked 20th nationally by GolfStat.com and is sixth in the nation in par 4 scoring with an average of 3.96 per par 4.
