LAS CRUCES, N.M. - For the fourth time in four days, the Idaho women's tennis team picked up a win. This time it was a 4-3 win in Western Athletic Conference action against New Mexico State.

"It was big for us to get a conference win like this," Idaho coach Tyler Neill said. "New Mexico State is always very tough and we have gone back and forth with them over the past few years. They are very tough to play in Las Cruces, but I think playing a few matches in the area over the weekend helped acclimate us to playing there. This was a great end to our road trip."

For the first time during Idaho's four-match winning streak, the Vandals lost the doubles point, dropping the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches after Victoria Lozano and Lauren Simpson won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. But the Vandals rallied to win four of the six singles matches to improve to 8-3 overall and 1-1 in the WAC.

Lozano and Simpson each won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, as Lozano made it a perfect 4-0 at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the week.

"Vicky played great all weekend long and today was no exception," Neill said. "She stepped up big at the number one spot.  It is really nice having a tough player at the top of the lineup to set the tone for the entire team."

Simpson was battling injury, and had been held out of the singles lineup the previous three days. Yvette Ly, who was held out of the singles lineup with injury two of the previous three days, also picked up a big win for the Vandals at No. 6 singles.

"It was huge for us to have Lauren and Yvette back in the lineup today," Neill said. "Even though they were dealing with injuries they competed hard and pulled out solid victories."

Silvia Irimescu fell at No. 3 singles for the Vandals, while Basia Maciocha got a win at No. 4 singles and Molly Knox fell in a three-setter at No. 5. Maciocha went undefeated in four singles matches during the road trip.

"Basia also had a great weekend," Neill said. "She is playing as well as I have seen her play in her time at Idaho."

The Vandals have the next two weekends off before heading to Hawai'i for another four-match road trip. The Vandals will face Hawai'i-Hilo in Hilo, Hawai'i on March 31, before hopping over to Oahu to take on Hawai'i on April 1, Louisiana Tech on April 2 and Chaminade on April 3.
