On Tap This Week:
After three straight home games, Idaho will look to put its 2-0 road WAC record on the line this weekend with a tough road trip to Louisiana Tech on Friday, then New Mexico State on Sunday. The Vandals will look to split the season’s meetings against La Tech and will go for the season sweep against New Mexico State.
A Look At Louisiana Tech:
The Lady Techsters have gone 1-1 since leaving Moscow with a 67-63 overtime victory on Jan. 23. La Tech now sits at 11-10 overall with a 4-3 WAC record after losing by 10 at Boise State and beating New Mexico State by 26 at home.
Tech has three scorers ranked in the top five overall in the conference, as Shanavia Dowdell leads the WAC with 15.2 points per game, Adrienne Johnson ranks fourth with 14.0 and Whitney Jones ranks fifth at 13.9 per game. Dowdell’s 9.1 rebounds per game are also good for second in the WAC behind Idaho’s Yinka Olorunnife.
Last time these two teams met, Idaho erased an 18-point second-half deficit over the final 11 minutes of the game and had two chances to take the lead in the final seconds before forcing overtime. A slow start by Idaho in overtime gave Tech the cushion it needed to escape Moscow with the 67-63 win.
After Idaho beat Hawai’i last Sunday, La Tech stands as the only remaining WAC team that the Vandals have never defeated. The all-time record between the two schools sits at 0-8, with seven meetings coming the regular season and one in the 2006 WAC Tournament.
Game Date Change:
Idaho's game at Nevada has been rescheduled from Feb. 20 to Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.
