PALO ALTO, Calif. – University of Idaho sophomore Hannah Kiser put herself into position for a potential national bid on Saturday at the NCAA West Region Cross Country Championships with an 18th overall finish at the meet.

Kiser ran a 20:48 on the women’s 6,000m course to pace the Idaho women at the meet to a 13th-place finish out of 31 teams. The finishing spot puts Kiser in contention to earn an individual at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, which will be held on Monday, Nov. 21, at Terre Haute, Ind.

Junior Barry Britt set the standard for the men’s team, as he took 30th overall out of 172 runners on the men’s 10,000m course with a time of 30:12. As a team, the Vandal men finished 12th out of 25 full teams in attendance.

Senior Stephane Colle was Idaho’s second finisher on the men’s side, as he took 75th overall with a time of 30:59. He was followed immediately by senior Jeremiah Dubie in 76th in 31:00, senior Markus Geiger in 92nd in 31:20 and junior Jeff Osborn, who wrapped up the scoring at 137th overall in 32:17.

Sophomore Emily Paradis was the second finisher on the women’s side with a 58th overall placing and a time of 21:39. Fellow sophomore Alycia Butterworth took 84th overall in 22:01, senior Anna Kalbrener was 95th in 22:08 and senior Julia Veseth wrapped up the team score with a 22:18 and 108th overall finish.

Kiser must now play the waiting game and wait until Sunday’s championship selection to find out if her season continues. She’s hoping to become Idaho’s first NCAA Cross Country Championships representative since the 2004 women qualified as a team and finished 25th overall.
