DENVER - For the fourth time this season, an Idaho women's tennis player was honored as the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week, as Almudena Sanz earned the nod for the second time.

Sanz, a sophomore from Oviedo, Spain, put together a perfect week of tennis, going 3-0 at No. 2 singles and 3-0 at No. 1 doubles. Her wins helped the Vandals earn the doubles point in all three matches as they secured a pair of conference victories. Sanz won all three of her singles matches in straight sets. She was the only Vandal player to win a singles match at San Francisco, finishing with an impressive 6-4, 6-1, win over Marina Nikolic. Against San Jose State, Sanz cruised to a 6-0 second set win over Chau Truong. She has now won her last eight times on the court, including four straight singles wins and four straight doubles wins.

"Almu had an excellent week," Idaho coach Dan Pollock said. "Her and Vicky are starting to click more and more as a doubles team and her singles play is continually improving. She is learning to maintain her concentration for longer periods of time in matches and maintain her intensity on the court even when she is not playing great. If she can continue to work on her weaker areas she will produce better and better results throughout her career as a Vandal."

Sanz also earned the honor on Feb. 21, and senior Molly Knox and sophomore Victoria Lozano followed the next two weeks. Idaho went 2-1 in the week with WAC wins over San Jose State and Louisiana Tech. The Vandals wrapped up the regular season with an 18-7 overall record and a 3-1 mark in WAC play. Idaho will take on Utah State in the first round of the WAC tournament on Thursday.
