Several members of the Idaho men's and women's tennis teams traveled to the Sun Valley Lyle Pearson Labor Day Championships over the weekend, a USTA non-collegiate open event in Sun Valley, Idaho, and Vandal players left as champions in women's singles, women's doubles, and men's doubles.

Vicky Lozano beat Sammie Watson of Boise State 6-1, 6-1 in the women's final. Sophie Vickers and Beatriz Flores beat Idaho State tandem Marianne Tangraife and Laura Theus 8-4 to claim the doubles final and freshman Matt Oddonetto took home the men's doubles title with Garrett Patton of Boise State with an 8-2 win in the finals. Lozano and Cristobal Ramos Salazar also advanced to the mixed doubles finals before falling.

"It's really nice to see our girls taking the opportunity to get match practice at an open tournament before the college season begins," Idaho women's coach Dan Pollock said. "They obviously are already competing very well and have come back hungry for success this year.  I can't wait to be able to get on the practice court with them as a team and prepare for our fall events."

"For Matt to win this tough men's open title which included many current and top former college players as a first semester freshman shows the potential he has," Idaho men's coach Jeff Beaman added of his freshman's performance.
