MOSCOW, Idaho - Vandal women’s cross country enters the 2013 season having one main goal in mind, bringing the motivation and returning talent to accomplish it.

Returning to the team is the quartet of seniors who started the goal as freshman. Seniors Hannah Kiser, Alycia Butterworth, Emily Paradis and Holly (Stanton) Browning helped lead Idaho to a 2010 Western Athletic Conference title as freshman, all four finished in the top 19 their sophomore year for the 2011 title and last year in the closest race in WAC history added a the third-consecutive title.

“After we won the first WAC title at home, the group of freshman joked around that the team was going to try and win four straight and at that point we chuckled,” Idaho director of track and field/cross country Wayne Phipps said. “After we won the second title it started to become a little more real and after winning the title last year it is clearly our goal to win the fourth consecutive one this season.”

Idaho also returns a strong group of sophomore competitors including, Halie Raudenbush, Stephanie Rexus, Alex Sciocchetti, Marquita Palmer and Abby Larson, who helped aid the team in claiming the WAC title last year.

In Idaho’s opening weekend Phipps said a mix of skill level will be sent but predominately new athletes to the Northwest Classic at Spokane, Wash.

“I like people to get out and race so I can gain a sense of what our new athletes can do,” Phipps said. “This race is a good starting point before we hit some of the bigger meets down the road.”
