Moscow, Idaho - After the graduation of two key seniors, the Vandal men’s cross country team returns for the 2013 season with the look of a brand new squad.

Returning on the roster for the Vandals are sophomores Tyler Jaszkowiak and Santos Vargas while returning juniors include Cayle Turpen and Colton Hastings.

“I am excited to see what this team can do from a talent standpoint,” Idaho director of track and field/cross country Wayne Phipps said. “We have a really good recruiting class with some outstanding freshman and transfers.”

Idaho men’s cross country holds the standard at Idaho with a department-best 11 team conference titles in program history – but the team hasn’t taken home the crown since 1965 in the Big Sky, despite coming very close on several occasions in the WAC.

The team opens its season this weekend at the Northwest Classic, where Phipps said he will send a group of mostly younger runners to get a taste of their first competition.
