|XC to Sundodger|
MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho cross country team got off to a strong start in its season debut two weeks ago at the Clash of the Inland Northwest, and this weekend, the Vandals will have their first big challenge at the Sundodger Invitational at Seattle, Wash.
Idaho director of track and field/cross country Wayne Phipps said the team has competed well over the last couple years at the Sundodger and the team and coaching staff really look forward to the meet.
Historically, the Vandals have had success running at the Sundodger. Last year, junior Hannah Kiser was the top collegiate finisher in the women’s race and also set a Vandal course record with her time of 20:45.21 over 6K.
“We held off Hannah in our first meet two weeks ago, but she will be competing this Saturday,” Phipps said. “She has done really well at this meet especially last year as an individual competitor.”
Last year, the women’s and men’s team both finished the meet in third place.
“The Sundodger provides great competition, a great course and normally great weather,” Phipps said. “This meet is really what we define as the start of our season.”
Idaho’s women will compete in the 6K Invitational race, which starts at 11 a.m. PT. The men’s 8K Invitational race follows at 11:35 a.m. The field includes teams from Washington, Gonzaga, Seattle U., Eastern Washington, Oregon State and the University of British Columbia.
