Moscow, Idaho – The University of Idaho men’s and women’s teams split forces Saturday to compete at the Bronco Invitational at Sunnyvale, Calif., and the Inland Empire Championships a Lewiston, Idaho.  The meets are the team’s final tune-up before the Western Athletic Conference Championships.

Last year, senior Emily Paradis led the way for the Idaho women at the Inland Empire Championships over the 5K course with a seventh-place overall finish. She was followed by sophomore Halie Raudenbush in 19th (18:44) and senior Holly Stanton in 20th (18:48). The women finished fourth in the meet with a team score of 110.

On the men’s side, sophomore Santos Vargas finished the meet in 30th place with a time of 26:02 followed by junior Cayle Turpen in 62nd (27:16).  The Vandal men finished the meet in seventh place with 196 points.

Historically, the Vandal’s didn’t make the trip to the Bronco Invitational last year. The previous year, senior Hannah Kiser was the only runner in the field of 175 to finish the 5K course in less than 17 minutes. Kiser earned the individual title at the meet and helped lead the women to a fourth-place finish with a score of 126. Senior’s Alycia Butterworth (21st, 17:37.6), Emily Paradis (24th, 17:39.5) and Holly Stanton (55th, 18:12.3) finished out Idaho’s scoring.

The Bronco Invitational will begin at 9 a.m. with the men’s 8K invitational section and the women’s 6K will follow at 9:45 a.m. The Inland Empire Championships kick off with the women’s 5K at 10:30 a.m. and the men’s 8K at 11:15 a.m.
