DENVER – The Idaho Vandal women’s team cross country team was voted to finish first while the men’s team was voted second in the Western Athletic Conference pre-championship coaches poll.

The three-time defending Idaho women’s WAC champion team received 63 overall votes and seven first-place votes. Seattle U was picked second with a first-place vote for 54 points. Utah Valley followed in third. New Mexico State was picked fourth with one first-place vote and 41 points, Kansas City followed in fifth by a margin of one point. Grand Canyon was selected sixth, with a total of 28 points, followed by Texas-Pan American in seventh with 21 points. Bakersfield and Chicago State wrapped up the coaches poll in eighth and ninth place, respectively.

For the men,Utah Valley was picked first with six first-place votes and four overall votes in its first year in the WAC. The Vandals followed in second place with 42 points and one first-place vote. Seattle U captured the third-place spot with 37 points, and one first-place vote. Claiming the fourth-place spot was New Mexico State, while Kansas City followed in fifth and the Aggies took the sixth-place spot with 25 points. Closing out the coaches’ poll was Texas-Pan American in sixth with 22 points, Grand Canyon in seventh with 16 points and Chicago State in eighth with seven points.

The 2013 Western Athletic Conference cross country championships will take place in Seattle, Wash., on Saturday, Nov. 2.
