|Breen, Zuniga Voted All-WAC|
DENVER—Senior defenders Chelsie Breen and Nitalia Zuniga were voted first and second-team All-Conference, respectively, by the Western Athletic Conference coaches the conference office announced on Tuesday.
“They both have had fantastic seasons,” head coach Pete Showler commented. “Not everybody has seen that based on our results. Chelsie is not the fourth in games started in Idaho history for no reason. Everything she and Nitalia have given to this program, both these honors are well deserved. It goes without saying that we [the coaching staff] see it day in and day out. It is great when other coaches can recognize that.”
Breen, a Cheney, Wash., native has started 79 games in her four-year career, ranking her fourth all-time in Idaho history. Breen has played a total of 80 matches for the Silver and Gold, totaling three goals and six points. This season she has been able to land six shots on goal, spending some time in the offensive mix.
Zuniga, a Ventura, Calif., native has been a major presence in the defensive backfield for the Vandals in 2013. Zuniga has played a total of 1,498 minutes this season, the fourth most this season. In the Sept. 27 game against New Mexico State, Zuniga doubled her career assist total. Against the Aggies she had an assist on all three Vandal goals, giving her six career assists from the defensive back line.
In their careers Idaho has recorded 14 shutout wins and 32 wins total.
Friday, the two seniors will look to extend their careers on the field. Idaho will travel to Las Cruces, N.M., to battle Seattle U in the first round of the WAC Tournament.
