|Knox, Akbar claim doubles title|
SEATTLE – The Idaho men’s tennis team wrapped up its fall season in styles Sunday, at the Pacific Northwest Intercollegiate, highlighted by Abid Akbar and Jake Knox claiming the Gold Flight doubles title.
The two were playing together as a doubles team for the first time this fall, and couldn’t be slowed down as they cruised to three consecutive wins to seal the title.
“I was really impressed how they came together as a team after not playing together before last week,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. “I thought it was a very strong end for the fall, with most players picking up wins against quality competition.”
Kevin Lee and Alan Shin advanced to the Gold doubles semi-finals, and Jose Bendeck and Lachlan Reed, as well as Alex Joitoiu and Marius Cirstea made it to the semi-finals of the Purple doubles flight.
In singles action, Akbar on three matches to advance to the Gold semi-finals, and Shin made it to the quarterfinals. Reed and Cirstea made it to the Purple quarter-finals before falling.
The Vandals will return to action to start the spring season on Jan. 22.
