Vandals come out strong

Walnut, Calif – Vandal freshman Halie Raudenbush made her way into Idaho all-time top-10 when she hit a 26-second season-best time on the opening night of the Mt.SAC Relays.

Raudenbush lead the way for the Vandals as she cut off 26-seconds from her season best time finishing 15th in the ‘B’ section of the 3000m steeplechase with a 11:04.99. Her time ranks 10th in Idaho all-time top-10 and fifth in the WAC according to the most recent rankings.

Senior Anna Kalbrener hit an 18-second season-best time of 4:35.19 in the women’s 1500m while junior Emily Paradis cut 13-seconds off her season-best mark posting a time of 4:44.89 in section ‘8’ of the 1500m.

Freshman Santos Vargas improved his season-best time in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:40.80 while fellow freshman Nathan Stark also posted a season-best time in the event.

A little closer to home, at the Whitworth Twilight Invite at Spokane, Wash., freshman Alaena Wilfong hit a season-best in the hammer throw with a heave of 130-9 (39.86m) finishing in sixth, two spots behind sophomore teammate Molly Myers’ mark of 147-11. Myers also took the top spot in the shot put with her toss of 40-4.25(12.30m).

The Vandals will be back in action tomorrow at the Mt.SAC Relays beginning on the field at 10 a.m. with the men’s section of the hammer throw. Track events will kick off at 10:50 a.m. with the 4x800m relay. A short distance away at the Beach Invitational, the men and women’s hammer throw will begin at noon.
