Walnut Calif.,- In the second strut of the three-day, four-meet trip to California, the University of Idaho track and field team produced more solid marks Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays.

Competing in large fields against very strong competition, the Vandal track and field team responded with multiple career-best marks and several all-time top-10 entries. Junior Kyle Rothwell highlighted the day improving his 10th all-time mark to fifth all-time in the men’s hammer throw. Rothwell posted a career-best of 204-10(62.43) and finished third overall.

Senior Ellen Rouse also improved her all-time top-10 mark. Rouse hit a career-best of 150-8(45.93m) in the women’s javelin throw to improve her standing to fifth all-time. She finished the event second overall.

Senior Ugis Svazs placed eighth overall in the men’s javelin throw with a season-best mark of 219-9 (66.97m). Two places behind, teammate senior Mike Marshall also hit a season-best mark to finish tenth in the event.

On the track, senior James Clark finished fifth in his section of the men’s 800m with a season-best time of 1:52.79. While teammate Keli Hall posted a season-best time of 2:15.36 in her section of the 800m.

The Vandal track and field team will continue their three-day meet tomorrow at the Mt. SAC relays beginning with the Olympic Development 400m at noon. A short way away at the Beach Invitational, events will get underway on the track at 8:30 a.m., while the field events will begin shortly aver at 8:45 a.m. A little closer to home, a squad of vandals will be competing at the Cougar Invitational at Pullman, Wash., beginning with the women’s javelin throw 9:30 a.m. and track events starting at noon with the women’s section of the 3000m steeplechase.
