|Vandals Close Out Weekend Well|
MOSCOW, Idaho – University of Idaho track and field closed out the final day of its two-meet home stint with multiple individual victories and career-best marks at the Idaho Open on Saturday.
After hitting two personal best marks yesterday at the Idaho Collegiate, junior Jesse Villines kept going strong with two individual victories today. Villines took the first place spot in the 60m with a career-best time of 7.01 and in the 200m with a career-best time of 21.78.
“Jesse had a great day today, and overall a great weekend,” Director and track & field/cross country Wayne Phipps said. “He ran seven races in two days and hit career-bests in everything.”
“Marquita had a great run yesterday to win the mile, and today another incredible race,” Phipps said. “I think getting her into a field in either the 800m or mile that goes out a little faster and getting some better competition will help drop some of those times even more.”
Also for the Vandals, sophomore Blake Gerling earned an individual victory in the 800m with a time of 1:56.47, while senior teammate Andrey Levkiv took the first-place spot in the shot put with a heave of 53-5 (16.28m) and senior Kyle Rothwell took first in the weight throw (57-5, 17.51m) followed closely by junior Zach Trumbauer in third with a career-best toss of 56-11 (17.36m).
“Overall I thought it was a great weekend, we had a fantastic day yesterday with a number of personal bests and individual victories and with the small group that competed today we followed that up.” Phipps said. “I have no complaints and I am really proud of the way everyone competed this weekend.”
Next on the docket for the Vandals is the Cougar Indoor on Friday and Saturday hosted by Washington State.
