This Week in Idaho Track & Field:
Cougar Indoor (Pullman, Wash.)
Friday, Jan.31- Saturday Feb.1
Idaho will travel across the border this weekend for the Cougar Indoor at Pullman, Wash. The Friday portion of the meet features a women’s indoor pentathlon and the first half of the men’s heptathlon, as well as the men’s pole vault and long jump and the men’s and women’s weight throw competitions. The remainder of the meet takes place on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. (PT).
Idaho posted 13 event wins, 11 personal-best marks and an indoor record fell last year at the Cougar Indoor. Four of the 13 winners – senior Kyle Rothwell (shot put), junior Matt Sullivan (pole vault), junior Karlene Hurrel (200m) and junior Ben Ayesu-Attah (400m) – return this season to defend their crowns. Also, Hurrel returns from the 4x400m relay team that posted the fastest time in Idaho history on an undersized track.
A Quick Recap:
The Vandals made big improvements in the team’s first home meets of the 2014 season on Friday and Saturday. Junior Jesse Villines ran in seven races over the weekend, and posted career-best marks in every event. Also, junior Taylor Hewett returned to the track after ACL surgery and hit a career-best mark in the 800m – beating her previous time by almost five seconds.
