Buc Scoring Invite (Mar.20-21)

After concluding the 2014 indoor season – one that saw 23 First-Team All-WAC honors and 21 Second-Team All-WAC honors, seven individual Western Athletic Conference titles, and a men’s team that became WAC Champions on their home turf, the Vandals will switch their focus to the outdoor season. Idaho’s outdoor season opens Thursday March 20 with the Whitworth Buc Scoring Invite at Spokane, Wash., hosted by Whitworth University. Thursday’s events are slated to begin at noon (PT) with the 100m hurdles of the heptathlon, field events kick off at 3:30 p.m. with the women’s portion of the hammer throw. Events continue Friday at noon with the 110m hurdles of the decathlon, field events will begin at 4:00 p.m. with the men’s potion of the shot put.
Idaho competed with a partial group of athletes at last year’s Buc Scoring Invite to open the outdoor season. Both the men and women’s team finished third in the meet. The men tallied 51 points while the women totaled 38 points over-all. The women claimed four individual wins over the meet, while the men claimed one.
A Quick Recap
The Vandals ended the indoor season on their home turf with the indoor WAC Championships. The men took the first place spot in dramatic fashion finishing one point ahead of second place Grand Canyon in a meet that came down to one event. The women finished the meet in third with 172 points behind second place Missouri-Kansas city (144.5) and first place WAC Champions Grand Canyon (166.5). Freshman Arphaxad Carroll received the Freshman of the year award, while Director of track &field/cross country Wayne Phipps was voted Coach of the Year.
2013 Outdoor Season
Last season, returning junior Matt Sullivan became the first Vandal to re-write the school record book with his first-place mark of 17-5 (5.31m) in the pole vault, beating the previous record set in 2011. Also, returning senior Hannah Kiser broke the Idaho school and all-time WAC record in the 5000m, her time of 15:44.06 in the Elite Invitation section smashed the Idaho school record by a margin of 26-seconds and beat the WAC record by 17-seconds.
