Sam Adams Classic (Apr. 5)

Idaho opened its 2014 outdoor season with a group of throwers at the Whitworth Buc Scoring Invite at Spokane, Wash. The Vandal’s will be back in action Saturday at the 8th annual Sam Adams Classic hosted by Whitworth University. Field events begin at 9:30 a.m. (PT) with the women’s portion of the discus throw; track events will begin at 10:15 a.m. with the combined 10,000m run.
Last year at the Sam Adams Classic the Vandals posted eight first-place marks. Senior Cait Rowland won both the 100m hurdles and the 400m hurdles for a second consecutive year. Sophomore Alex Sciocchetti earned an individual victory in the 5000m, while fellow sophomore Halie Raudenbush took the top place in the 3k Steeplechase and sophomore Jerrica Hauck took the first place spot in the pole vault. For the men, Sophomore Ian Middleton posted a first-place mark in the 400m, while sophomore teammate Blake Gerling added an individual victory in the 400m hurdles, and sophomore Santos Vargas took the top place in the 3k Steeplechase. The women concluded the meet in second place with 68 points, while the men finished third with 31 points.

A petite group of throwers opened the 2014 outdoor season at the Buc Scoring Invite on Mar. 20-21. Freshman Ana Pardo claimed the top spot in the shot pot (44-2.5, 13.47m), while freshman Katie Wardsworth placed second in the hammer throw (155-6, 47.40m). For the men, senior Andrey Levkiv took second-place in both the shot put (54-10.75,16.73m) and the discus throw (155-6, 47.41m), while senior teammate Kyle Rothwell placed second in the hammer throw (177-0,53.94m) followed by junior Alex Taylor in ninth (135.4, 41.26m).
