MOSCOW, Idaho—A pair of Vandal distance runners earned praise for their work inside the classroom on Thursday. Seniors Alycia Butterworth and Hannah Kiser were voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America Capital One Academic All-District 7 Women's Cross Country and Track and Field Team.

Butterworth, an eight-time Western Athletic Conference All-Academic selection, was big piece of the four-straight WAC Championships won by the women’s cross country team. The Parksville, British Columbia native, holds a 3.91 GPA in marketing. Butterworth was a three-time WAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week in 2014. She currently holds the fastest 3000m steeplechase time in the WAC, sixth fastest in the West Region and ranks 16th in the NCAA. The two-time NCAA steeplechase quarterfinalist, won the 2014 WAC steeplechase title and scored bronze in the women’s 5000m. In her career she has earned 10 First Team All-WAC selections and three Second Team honors.

Kiser, a nine-time WAC All-Academic selection, was a 2012 Second Team Capital One Academic All-America honoree. Kiser maintains a 3.94 GPA, majoring in biochemistry. Her 2012 and 2013 individual cross country conference titles helped boost the Vandals to four straight team titles. She is a two-time WAC Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year and was the overall WAC Female Athlete of the Year in 2013. She is a three-time conference indoor 3000m champion and became the first women in WAC outdoor history to win the 15000m, 5000m and 10000m earlier this season. Kiser is a five time United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic honoree, as well as a two time USTFCCCA Indoor All-American in the 3000m. The Wenatchee, Wash., native, is both the school and WAC record holder in the women’s 5000m.

Both Butterworth and Kiser are competing in the NCAA West Region Preliminaries this week. Butterworth will run the women’s 3000m steeplechase on Friday and Kiser will be part of the 5000m on Saturday.

The 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams are selected by CoSIDA members. First Team All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where First, Second and Third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
