Knute Westergren was a solid second basemen for the Idaho baseball team from 1955-57. He had a hot bat for the Vandals in 1957, when he had 19 hits and eight RBI in 48 plate appearances for a Pacific Coast Conference Northern Division best average of .396. That season, he led the Vandal men to a 5-8 record and was rewarded at the end of the year with a spot on the All-Pacific Coast Conference team as the top second-basemen in the conference and in the NCAA District 8. Westergern went on to play in the minor leagues.
