MOSCOW, Idaho - Seven individual Idaho tennis players have earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, while the Vandal women's tennis team was recognized as an ITA All-Academic team, as the ITA announced its academic awards this week.

Molly Knox, Silvia Irimescu, Lauren Simpson and Jana Siwa earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status for the Vandal women, while Jake Knox, Kevin Lee and Abid Akbar earned the honor on the men's side.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, have at least a 3.5 GPA for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters. The ITA All-Academic Team award goes to programs that have a cumulative team GPA of 3.2 or above.

"Both programs had great years on the court and in the classroom," Idaho Director of Tennis Jeff Beaman said about the Vandal men's and women's programs. "Having the women's team honored as a whole and several players off both teams as individuals shows these athletes' dedication to success in all parts of their lives."

The Vandal men were one of only two Western Athletic Conference teams to place individuals on the ITA Scholar-Athlete list, joining New Mexico State which also had three. On the women's side, Idaho joined New Mexico State and Hawai'i as the only WAC teams from 2010-11 to make either list, with all three teams earning the team honor and placing individuals on the Scholar-Athlete list.
