Another honor has come to University of Idaho guard Mike Iupati, who is recognized on the Rotary Lombardi Watch List from which the nation's top lineman will be chosen.

"Mike is very worthy of this honor," coach Robb Akey said. "He is a first-class young man and his hard work is reflected in his being on the Rotary Lombardi Watch List."

Iupati was voted the offensive captain by his teammates and earlier this month was announced as and Outland Trophy Watch List honoree. He has been recognized on campus for his leadership and work ethic.

"It doesn't surprise me that Mike continues to receive recognition not only for his playing ability but his leadership," Akey said. "He has gained the respect of his teammates and the community."

The 40th annual Rotary Lombardi Award watch list includes 153 players from 79 teams and 11 conferences. It is presented annually by Houston's Rotary Club to the nation's top college football lineman - offense or defense who, in addition to outstanding performance and ability, best exemplifies the discipline of Vince Lombardi. On Oct. 14, the 12 semifinalists for the Rotary Lombardi Award will be announced and on Nov. 11, the four finalists will be chosen. The four finalists will travel to Houston for the ceremony to announce the winner Dec. 9.

The Rotary Club of Houston founded the Rotary Lombardi Award in 1970, in the weeks following the death of legendary football coach Vince Lombardi from cancer.
