MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho men's basketball continues to build for the future, this time bringing in local talent Tanner Christensen from University High in Spokane.

"The Vandals are getting an extremely intelligent, extremely competitive and off-the-charts coachable young man," said University High head coach, Garrick Phillips.  "I can't say enough good things about him.  His body improvement, as far as his movement on the court and his skill level, that's always been high, but his overall strength and skill level has exploded recently and he's going to be a great addition to the Vandal basketball program."

Christensen averaged 13.6 points per game to go along with more than nine rebounds per contest as a junior.  Christensen won't be joining the Vandals until the 2020 season, as he will depart for his LDS mission immediately after high school.

"He's definitely not just a traditional big," Phillips added.  "Size and strength-wise he has the ability to go down low and overpower you, but you're getting a hugely expanded skillset out of him.  He can handle it way better than average for his size.  His shooting ability and overall skillset set him apart."

He also made the most of high school in the classroom.  A straight-A student, Christensen is currently expected to be the valedictorian of his high school class.
