T&F wraps up weekend

MOSCOW, Idaho – Only a small crew of University of Idaho track and field athletes competed on Sunday, but the team wrapped up its third home meet in three days with two wins and two career-best marks at the Vandal Open, presented by Runners Soul of Spokane.

Idaho senior Sarah Nutsch won the women's 20-point weight throw with a career-best toss of 55-5.5 (16.90m) and was followed in third in the event by redshirt freshman Alaena Wilfong, who hit a four-foot career best of 47-3.5 (14.41m) in the event.

Vandal senior Liga Velvere competed for the third day in a row on the track and won the women's 400m with a time of 56.91. Junior Megan Dempsey finished fifth in the same event at 1:04.53. Also on the track, freshman Ian Middleton took second in the men's 800m with a time of 2:02.12.

Sophomore multi-athlete Reba Eggert took seventh in the long jump at 14-9.25 (4.50m), while sophomore Molly Meyers went 40-1.25 (12.22m) for second place in the women's shot put and added a fourth-place toss of 47-2.5 (14.39m) in the weight throw.

After its busy weekend that featured a combined 30 career-best marks, Idaho will take its talents to Seattle, Wash., next weekend for the Husky Classic on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9, and the UW Indoor Open on Sunday, Feb. 10.
